Inflatable bouncy castles product history!!

So have you ever wondered or been asked who invented the first ever bouncy castle?

Well we have, and we thought it would a good idea to share our finding with our clients too..... So here goes......

The first inflatable structure was designed and built in 1959 by John Scurlock in Shreveport, Louisiana, He was experimenting with inflatable covers for a government request for proposal, when he noticed his sons jumping on the air structure. Scurlock was a pioneer of inflatable domes, inflatable tents, and inflatable signs. Scurlocks most successful achievement was the invention of the safety air cushion that is used today by fire and rescue departments to catch people jumping from buildings or heights.

The first bouncy castle or also known as ‘space walk’ manufacturing company was located in New Orleans. Scurlocks wife, Frances, started the first inflatable rental company in 1966, and in 1976 Scrulock and his wife built a custom facility for the production and rental of inflatable structures and spaces walks or bouncy castle products.

Scrulock and his wife then went on to marketing their products further not only to the corporate market but also to children’s birthdays, county fetes and so on!!!

John and Frances son Frank, decided to progress and expand their rental concept throughout the United States under the brand names "Space Walk" and "Inflatable Zoo".

Frank also furthered his ideas again, and founded the first all inflatable indoor play park called "Fun Factory" on Thanksgiving Day 1986 in Metairie, Louisiana.
